Daijosai / 大嘗祭

November 20, 2019

After cultivation of rice, the Emperor annually conducts Shinto ritual called “Niiname-sai” on November 23 to express our gratitude towards Amateras Oomikami (The goddess of sun, ancestor of the Imperial Family) and other deities for good harvest of each year.
The same ritual; however, the ceremony conducted in the year when the new Emperor ascends the throne is called “Daijo sai”. It is the most sacred and important Shinto ritual. This year, it was conducted on November 14 to 15.
Praying for prosperity of the new era “Reiwa” and thanking nature for blessings .
